Willie Nelson postpones Wausau

Willie Nelson postpones Wausau

Cincinnati -- Country music legend Willie Nelson is coming to town. He'll perform at Riverbend's PNC Pavilion May 12th. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. through Ticketmaster.

Although he didn't become a star until the mid-'70s, Nelson spent the '60s writing songs that became hits for stars like Ray Price and Patsy Cline. During the early '70s, Nelson aligned himself with Waylon Jennings and the outlaw country movement that made him into a star in 1975.

For almost five decades Willie Nelson has been a mainstay on the country music scene.

The Performing Arts Foundation, which books events at the Grand, issued the following statement: Music superstar Willie Nelson has encountered an unanticipated scheduling conflict and has been forced to postpone next week’s performances, including the one at Wausau’s Grand Theater on ARTSblock this Tuesday evening, March 23. These dates are being moved to the fall, shortly after Nelson’s annual FarmAid festival.

The new Wausau date will be Wednesday, October 6, 2010. Please check on further information regarding his tour schedule. Ticketholders may retain their tickets for the October show or contact the ARTSblock Ticket Office to arrange a full refund or exchange for another ARTSblock-sponsored event at the Grand Theater.

Recognizing the inconvenience of this late notice, the ticket office will exchange Willie Nelson tickets for seats at the Thursday evening (March 25) performance of Gladys Knight at no additional charge. “I’m assured that Willie Nelson was reluctant to change everyone’s plans,” said ARTSblock executive director Jim O’Connell.

“We’re very pleased that we were able to find another date so quickly to bring this legend to Central Wisconsin.

Willie Nelson postponing Mystic Lake gigs

Willie Nelson postponing Mystic Lake gigs

Willie Nelson is going to make us wait even longer for his first Twin Cities headline concert since 2002. His official website announced over the weekend that a week's worth of shows -- including those Friday and Saturday at Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake -- have been postponed until October due to an "unanticipated scheduling conflict."

JAKARTA : All rock stars look the same today, tsk-ed an ageing-hipster friend of mine recently, not unlike how my mother pooh-poohs the off-key wannabes on "American Idol" ("Kids today have no star power. Elvis - now that's a star!")

I'd like to add another sweeping statement to the biased pot: All the music journalists look the same today - no matter where in the world you are.

Crumpled grungy plaid shirt or old-school metal tee over a pair of skinny jeans, worn with Converse sneakers and a general disdain for the world (piercings represent rebellion!). It looked like the Ritz Carlton Jakarta had been overrun by mildly depressed, overgrown teenagers still mourning the death of Kurt Cobain, their despondent bodies littered along the carpeted corridors like bleeding-heart memorials to rock 'n' roll.

Hey, it felt like home.

The plaid brigade and I (plaid-less in a Willie Nelson T-shirt) were gathered in the Indonesian capital on February 16 to join together in giddy worship of alt-rock trio Placebo, whose lead singer could never be accused of looking like everyone else.

Brian Molko - an American brought up and residing in Europe - is like the illegitimate love child of Michael Stipe, David Bowie and Shirley Manson. And that's meant to be a compliment. He performs with a fierce bite, speaks with a languid intensity, and dresses with the subtle androgyny of a Ziggy Stardust in the age of Jil Sander. And the 37-year-old has been rocking the eyeliner and nail polish since Adam Lambert was clomping around in his mother's heels.

Formed in 1994, Placebo has been effective medication for a generation of disaffected youth - and then some. Songs like "Nancy Boy", "Teenage Angst", "You Don't Care About Us", "Every You Every Me" and "Special K" continue to be cranked out from behind the bedroom doors of some complicated young people (and still-complicated not-so-young adults).

Their new album - recorded with new drummer Steve Forrest, who replaced the old drummer Steve Hewitt - is called "Battle For The Sun". Molko, Forrest and bassist/guitarist Stefan Olsdal are set to perform at Fort Canning on March 18.

Molko remembers us well, Singapore. Speaking exclusively to TODAY, he said he remembers our island to be clean, warm, and filled with beautiful people.

Of course, the last time they performed here was at MTV's Fashionably Loud event in March 2006, where freakishly beautiful models obstructed their view of us - the greasy, sweaty, crumpled people in the audience.

I didn't correct him. It was a matter of national (in)security.

Willie Nelson just can't wait to get on the road again

Willie Nelson just can't wait to get on the road again — as long as that road doesn't lead to the Twin Cities.

Citing an "unanticipated scheduling conflict," the Red-Headed Stranger has postponed an entire week's worth of shows, including his sold-out gigs Friday and Saturday at the Mystic Lake Casino. Nelson will now play the venue Oct. 8 and 9. Ticketholders may use their tickets for the new dates — Friday for Oct. 8 or Saturday for Oct. 9 — or return them to the point of purchase for a refund.

IN OTHER CONCERT NEWS

Grammy-winning newcomers the Zac Brown Band have been added to the lineup of the third annual Apple River Country Splash, planned for June 17 through 19 at Float-Rite Amphitheater in Somerset.

Mystic Lake entertainment director Joshua Flom said he wasn't given an explanation about the conflict, but the rescheduled sold-out gigs are Oct. 8-9 (with March 26 tickets honored for Oct. 8, March 27 for Oct. 9). Refunds will be available at place of purchase until July 31. Nelson's new album, "Country Music," produced by T Bone Burnett, is due April 13.

In other concert news, Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller team up on June 19 at the Fitzgerald Theater; the super trio of Bela Fleck, Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyer is set for June 28 at the Guthrie; and Pieta Brown does the "Quiet, Please" series at the Varsity on June 4. Tickets to all three concerts will go on sale Friday.

Nelson's career has spanned six decades

Nelson's career has spanned six decades and more than 200 albums, and he has written such chart-toppers as "Crazy," "Hello Walls," "Red Headed Stranger" and "Stardust." He is also an actor known for his activism, especially as president and founding member of Farm Aid, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to keep family farmers on their land.

His latest album, "Country Music," will be released April 20 on Rounder Records. Produced by T Bone Burnett, the CD features old-time banjo master Riley Baugus, double bassist Dennis Crouch and Burnett himself, all musicians featured on the acclaimed Robert Plant/Alison Krauss album "Raising Sand."

At age 76, Nelson performs more than 200 shows a year. He is expected to perform some songs from "Country Music" while on tour.

People planning to attend either of the Willie Nelson concerts at Mystic Lake Casino this weekend will have to change their plans. The two shows have been postponed until October.

Willie Nelson and Family were originally scheduled to perform March 26-27. Tickets for the Friday, March 26 show will be honored Friday, October 8 and tickets for the Saturday, March 27 show will be honored Saturday, October 9. You can return tickets for a refund through July 31.

In addition to the Minnesota reschedule, Willie Nelson Tickets has had to reschedule four other planned stops in the Midwest. The dreaded scheduling conflicts has been cited Sold Out Ticket Market as as to why the last-minute date changes were necessary.

Willie Nelson Tickets If you’re looking to do a little charity work

If you’re looking to do a little charity work in your spare time, perhaps you should consider becoming a marijuana-legalization activist. You can start tomorrow, by attending the Austin Freedom Fest, a pot-promoting charity concert organized by (who else) Willie Nelson, a totally authentic rock star who pulled off a collaboration with Jessica Simpson while retaining every ounce of his cool and, of course, got busted for toting around several pounds of drugs. Nelson is headlining the festival, all proceeds from which will benefit four marijuana-policy-reform groups that seek to stop the war on drugs. “I’d like to see it taxed and regulated and looked upon as nothing more or less dangerous than alcohol or cigarettes,” Nelson said. The seventy-five-year-old rocker no longer smokes cigarettes or drinks alcohol but challenges anyone who claims the pot he’s been smoking for fifty years has made him stupid. “I do a two-hour show every night and remember forty or fifty songs,” the singer said. “So I challenge anyone out there [to remember them as well as I do]. You might tie it, but I doubt you can beat it.”

The prolifically creative singer-songwriter will play two shows in the UK in May. Nelson's lengthy career will ensure a wealth of fantastic material he can mine on these headline shows at Manchester Apollo (11 May) and London's Hammersmith Apollo (13). Get your tickets now and book an evening in the esteemed company of a living legend of the country music world.

Willie Hugh Nelson was born in the town of Abott, Texas on April 30th, 1933. It didn't take long for Willie to discover his love for music and at the tender age of four he gave his first public performance. Now with over 35 years of performing behind him and over 100 albums under his belt, Willie Nelson is indisputably one of the greatest writers and most accomplished guitar players of all time.
